Lewes Polar Bear Plunge
This year we are offering two ways to Plunge for one great mission. Register for the In-Person Plunge on Sunday, February 6 at 1:00 p.m. in Rehoboth Beach. OR register for the Virtual Plunge and get all the fun of jumping in the ocean without, you know, jumping in the ocean. No matter how you Plunge, what’s most important is that you Plunge in support of the athletes of Special Olympics Delaware.
The Lewes Polar Bear Plunge, held annually on the first Sunday in February, has developed into an iconic Delaware event, and is Special Olympics Delaware’s most significant fundraiser.
What is it?
Individuals, including many Special Olympics athletes and their family members, take the plunge into the icy Atlantic Ocean during the height of winter!
Other crowd favorites during the Weekend Plunge Festival include the 5K Run to the Plunge, Fire & Ice Festival, Restaurant Chili Contest, Apres Plunge Party and other fun family activities! Check out the Schedule of Events here.
Why do it?
Everyone deserves a chance at a happy and purposeful life. Yet people with intellectual disabilities face doubt, barriers and low expectations. For many, Special Olympics is the only place where they find an opportunity to participate in their communities, develop belief in themselves, and feel like champions.
For every inspiring Special Olympics athlete in Delaware there are six more people waiting for their chance - and so many more around the world. By participating in the Polar Bear Plunge, you’re helping us reach out to one more person who wants to participate in Special Olympics.
