Dewey Goes Pink

Oct 9, 2021

Occurring the first or second Saturday each October Dewey Goes Pink is a 5K run-walk / 1.5 mile walk & Pink Pig Roast to raise money for our local Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. Monty tells the story of his mother telling him what a wonderful organization the DBCC is as they keep all of the money raised local right here in the very community of his businesses. It makes perfect sense for local businessmen to give back in this special way to their local community, and to all of their customers that deal with breast cancer in their own way. This event was created and is hosted by two local businessmen that both have strong interest in fighting breast cancer.

Adam Howard, owner of the Body Shop in Rehoboth has partnered with Monty while dealing with his own mom’s fight with breast cancer. These two guys have been touched, and know how this awful disease in one way or another affects every single one of you, they have teamed up their businesses to bring us this event.

Breast Cancer unfortunately affects just about everyone at some point and time in their lives. Whether through moms, sisters, wives, daughters, girlfriends, etc… this awful form of cancer is way too common for us all. Please join us this year on Saturday, October 6th in Dewey Beach at The Starboard Restaurant. In our first year we had over 900 participants raising $12,000, second year over 1300 participants raising $20,000, 2013 topped 1800 participants, raising over $46,000, 2014 was sell-out at 2200+ participants raising over $58,000, and in 2015…despite a weeks delay due to a hurricane, we had 2500 participants registered raising over $82,000 for Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition!  Since then we’ve sold this event out each year weeks before the event takes place, as it is capped at 2500 participants.  Today’s total financial support to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition surpasses $380,000!

The Starboard Restaurant will celebrate the 8th anniversary of Dewey Goes Pink with incredible entertainment. Kristen of the band Kristen and the Noise along with her husband Johnny Phatt of Mr. Greengenes will entertain all on Saturday afternoon. Saturday night for all to party on after a big day of exercise will be The Amish Outlaws!

Please note that there is no late registration if sold out at 2,500 participants.

Of course we welcome sponsors and contributors of all levels and kinds…anyway you are able to help…we greatly appreciate! This year’s race will conclude with a parking lot Pig Roast, featuring live acoustic music Kristen & Johnny. Bethany Blues BBQ will roast several pigs, and have plenty of food to feed the masses after the race. Michelob Ultra as well as specialty PINK Ruby Red Crushes will be offered to celebrate the effort. Whether you want to run, walk, volunteer, or just join us for the post pig roast, we welcome your participation and hope you will Rally the Troops as we are hoping for another packed event! For information on the actual run itself, feel free to contact Barb. On the overall event, day of festivities, and pig roast, etc, feel free to contact Monty@TheStarboard.com
