Virtual 40th Annual Sandcastle Contest

Jul 11, 2020 • 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Take part in one of Delaware Seashore State Park's legacies, the annual Sandcastle Contest! Due to uncertain conditions due to COVID19, this year's contest will be held VIRTUALLY! The contest took place at the South Inlet Day Area for many years, but this year you can build a castle anywhere in the park! Here's how to participate: 1. Plan a beach day anytime between now and July 11, 2020 2. Choose your class: --12 and under (no help from adults!) --Open class (all ages) 3. Build the sandcastle of your dreams! Castles will be scored on structural complexity, aesthetic appeal, use of natural materials (do NO use beach grass!), and originality. 4. Do a photo-shoot of your completed sandcastle and be sure to have at least one photo with your castle and "DSSP2020" written in the sand or on a piece of paper in the photo 5. Post on social media with TWO hashtags: #DSSPSandcastleContest2020 and either #OpenClass or #12andUnder (if you don't have social media, please email photos to IRLSS@delaware.gov) 6. Post or submit your photos by 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 7. Photos will be judged and winners will be announced by 5 p.m. Winners will be contacted to receive their prizes. Sandcastles must be built inside Delaware Seashore State Park. (So if we see condo buildings in the background of your photos, you will be disqualified.)
