Shipbuilding has been an inherent part of the history and economy of Lewes, with ships built and launched from the Lewes seaport since the 17th century. Learn about the history of Shipbuilding in Lewes as we celebrate this historic trade with a live demonstration of the techniques used to make a ship’s spar, using period tools and techniques. Younger visitors can work alongside museum staff to build and paint their own miniature wooden vessels.
