Skate the Cape Shred Festival 8

 Skate the Cape is a shred festival, combining longboard skateboard competitions with live music concerts and camping at the beautiful Cape Henlopen State Park.  Skate the Cape started in 2012 primarily as a longboard event with various competitions.  The event was held annually the first full weekend of November up until 2017.  Since 2017, the event has grown the music part of the event with the help of NJ musicians Timmy B (Tim Brookes) and Patty C (Pat Conley).

   The most recent Skate the Cape was held on Nov. 1-3, 2019.  The event had live music each night at the campgrounds, skate events during the day and we even did a beach cleanup with Delaware Surfrider Foundation to create awareness about eco-consciousness.  Our mission for 2021 is to go zero waste, increase the music scene with more artists and stages as well as streamline the longboard skateboard competitions to maximize fun for the participants and spectators.

   This event directly benefits the State Park by bringing awareness and future customers.  The local restaurants, food trucks and hotels benefit from the out of state attendees spending money in this area during the “off-season”.  Local schools benefit by having a sanctioned skateboard event for students and the event is family friendly.

   Faceplant Boardriders and Rob Wheeler organize and host the event.  We are a longboard manufacturing company with a team of riders throughout the United States.  Led by owner Rob Wheeler who has organized Skate the Cape since inception in 2012.  Since then Rob Wheeler and Faceplant Boardriders have hosted over 20 sanctioned longboard competitions in various States in the Mid-Atlantic.  The mission has always been to create sanctioned skate events that are well organized, safe and fun for the participants and spectators.
