Paddle through Hidden History: The Assawoman Canal

May 29, 2020 • 9:30 am - 11:30 am
The Assawoman canal is a little-known waterway that was dug in the late 19th century to allow boat traffic to travel from Indian River Bay to Little Assawoman Bay, without the need to enter the ocean. It was also the primary means of traveling to Bethany Beach in the early 20th century. Explore this waterway via kayak, along with a park naturalist and a park historian, to learn about its importance in Delaware’s history, and the role it plays in the coastal ecosystem. Previous paddling experience recommended.
