The Dewey Business Partnership and the Town of Dewey Beach will host a Dewey Beach parade filled with fun for all ages at 6:30pm Wednesday, July 24th. Grab your family and friends and come on out to enjoy an event which the entire town can enjoy. Come celebrate America with our Great American Summer Celebration! Feel free to wear your most spirited USA gear!
The horses will unload on the second block of Saulsbury Street at 5:30pm Wednesday, they will stage in The Starboard's parking lot. The parade participants will line up on the second block of Swedes Street at 6pm. The parade will go down Route 1 in the right hand lane from Salisbury Street to Van Dyke Street, ending on Bayside Van Dyke Street on the south side of the Hyatt Place with a special beach party, bonfire, and the loading of the horses back into their trailers. For those coming into town, a reminder that parking is free on Monday-Wednesday from 5pm-11pm.
Can we pet the horses? No petting. Thank you.
Can we get our pictures taken with the horses? Yes! But you must be at a four to five foot distance.
What time does the parade begin? The parade begins at 6:30pm.
Is there a rain date? No, but there could be a delay or modification in schedule.
Are there any activities beforehand? Yes, the horses will hitch and stage on Saulsbury Street at 5:00pm. They will move to the Starboard parking lot at 6pm for a pre-party. The public is welcome to view the staging.
What is the parade route? Parade starts at Saulsbury Street at 6:30pm. It will continue South along Route One to Van Dyke Street. The Clydesdales are at the end of the parade. They will follow the same parade route but will stop at the Dickinson Street Circle at the Rudder and Lighthouse Beach, then continue to Van Dyke Street and the bay where they will be from 7:15 - 8:30pm. The Clydesdales will be unhitched at Van Dyke and return to the Budweiser Trailers.
Is there a post party and the end of the parade? There will be a post party at the bay beach at Van Dyke Street. The Rehoboth-Dewey Chamber of commerce bonfire will take place there with roasted marshmallows available for $1. We will also have a DJ, food, refreshments, autograph signing with Miss Delaware, and fun from Schell Brothers and the Town of Dewey Beach Marketing Committee.
Where can I park in Dewey? Parking meters are free from 5 pm to 11 pm.
Is there any other transportation? Jolly Trolley will be running from Dewey to Rehoboth. Ubers and Taxis will be running too.
I have kids. Where is the best place to go? We suggest going to the bayside beach at Van Dyke Street. The staging at 5:00 on Saulsbury Street is great to get up-close! There are lots of great viewing areas along the South side of Route 1 . We do not suggest bringing beach chairs to set up along Route 1. because there will be parade fencing. Beach chairs, however, are welcome at the Bay Beach on Van Dyke.
Where is the best spot to view the parade? Anywhere along Route 1 south of Saulsbury Street. Parade can also be viewed from the north side of Route 1.
Will businesses be open? YES! Come early to get a great spot for dinner and a parade!
Are there restrooms? All restaurants will be open. Public bathroom use at Hyatt hotel on Van Dyke.
