DESCRIPTION:The exhibit continues the Lewes Historical Society (LHS) and Le
 wes\nAfrican American Heritage Commission’s (LAAHC) quest to preserve\ns
 uch history that was often neglected and rarely recorded. Originating\nfro
 m the LHS’s 2023 documentary\, also titled “Voices Heard\,” the\nexh
 ibit features about 30 photographs from the late 1800s to the 1960s\ndepic
 ting various aspects of the Black experience in Lewes\, such as\nchurch\, 
 military service\, growing up\, business\, and recreation. The\ndocumentar
 y is also run on a continuous loop for visitors to watch.\nOverall\, the e
 xhibit depicts a vibrant Black community that once\nplayed a significant r
 ole in creating the culture of Lewes. The\nphotographs\, on public display
  for the first time\, are on loan from\nthe Daisey Family Legacy Collectio
 n\, other private collections\, and\nthe LHS. While Lewes’ Black populat
 ion has shrunk from about 25% in\nthe 1960s to only 1% today (per U.S. Cen
 sus)\, it’s past and present\ncontributions continue to shape the commun
 ity. The exhibit runs\nthrough December 29th at the Lewes History Museum o
 n 101 Adams Ave\,\nLewes.  Admission is $5 for adults and free for childr
