SUMMARY:Twilight Inspired
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Twilight is the time period between day and night when the sky
is\npartially illuminated by the Sun\, occurring before sunrise and after\
nsunset. It consists of three stages: civil twilight\, nautical\ntwilight\
, and astronomical twilight\, defined by how far the Sun is\nbelow the hor
izon. In art however\, twilight often symbolizes a\ntransitional state bet
 ween light and darkness\, evoking feelings of\nmystery\, introspection\, a
nd emotional depth. It is frequently depicted\nin paintings to create a co
ntemplative mood\, capturing the beauty of\nthe fading light and the softe
ning of forms. This month the artists of\nGallery One are exploring this m
agical time of day. Writers have long\nrecognized twilight as metaphor. A
fragile moment of reconciliation\,\nwhere sea and sky become inseparable.
Artist Eileen Olson knows this\nfeeling. In her acrylic painting\, “Thre
shold\,” Olson depicts a\nsolitary figure draped in red standing at the
threshold between day\nand night\, light and darkness\, twilight. “Every
one knows what it\nfeels like to be at a threshold\, that pause felt befor
e stepping into\nsomething new.’ Artist Dale Sheldon’s acrylic paintin
g\, “Evening\nSerenity\,” evokes the entirety of the twilight experien
ce\, “As the\nsun sets\, a new landscape appears. Soft colors and reflec
tions with\nnew sounds and sights\, crickets and frogs and lightning bugs
create a\npeaceful hum reflecting the transition to night.” For many art
ists\nbeing by the sea at twilight is an ethereal experience. In “Quiet\
nTime\,” an acrylic painting by Joyce Condry\, and in Cheryl\nWisbrock
 ’s\, watercolor\, “Inspired by Twilight\,” the sand and sea\nmeeting
the sky take center stage. While for artist Mary Bode Byrd\ntime spent ne
ar the ocean during heavy storms at twilight\, influenced\nher acrylic pai
nting\, “Wall Energy.” For artist Laura Hickman the\nfall time change
transformed her art studio\, “I began to see the\ninterior lights illumi
nating my studio\, bringing the beautiful\ntwilight colors reflecting the
magic time between light and dark. In\nartist Ed Lewandowski’s oil paint
ing\, “Winter Barn\,” a\nsnow-covered barn glows with golden warmth be
neath a twilight sky\,\nwhere fading hues of rose and indigo whisper the d
 ay’s last light.\nCindy Beyer’s watercolor painting\, \" Blue Hour Bea
con\,\" twinkles in\nthe twilight while lighting the way for the weary sea
  captains\nreturning home\, and artist Lesley McCaskill’s acrylic\, “E
agles’\nWatch\,” pays homage to the majestic eagle guarding the twilig
ht sky\nover the glade near her home. “Twilight is not an end\, but a\nb
eginning disguised as an end.” We hope you’ll stop by this month\nand
check out our twilight glow! Gallery One is open daily from 10am\n– 4pm.
