SUMMARY:Tower of Power
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:With a landmark 50th anniversary album\, 2018’s \"Soul Side o
f Town\,\"\nstill visible in their rearview mirror\, one would think Tower
of Power\n(or TOP\, as it is more often referred to by its global legion
of\nfans)\, the much-lauded creators of their own horn-based\, hybrid bran
 d\nof East Bay soul/funk/R&B/rock\, would take a well-deserved breather.\n
But that is not in the band’s DNA\, nor that of its founder and\nringmas
ter\, tenor saxophonist and bandleader Emilio Castillo.\nBeginning with Ea
st Bay Grease\, their 1970 album debut on legendary\nimpresario Bill Graha
 m’s San Francisco Records\, the tireless unit\nhas released 26 albums\,
been responsible for such classic hit tracks\nas “What Is Hip?\,” “Y
ou’re Still a Young Man\,” “So Very\nHard To Go” and “Down To Th
 e Nightclub\,” among so many others.\nTOP’s horn section\, the heart o
f the band\, have long been sought\nafter sidemen\, appearing on recording
s by top artists ranging from\nElton John\, Aerosmith and Bonnie Raitt to
Otis Redding\, Santana and\nHeart. TOP paved the way for other high-powere
 d brass rock/R&B hit\nartists of the '70s like Chicago\, Earth\, Wind & Fi
re and Blood\, Sweat\n& Tears. Now\, with their latest album release avail
able on both on CD\nand LP\, \"Step Up\,\" the band forges on into the nex
t decade of the 21st\ncentury\, keeping to its continuous hardcore tour sc
hedule (200 days a\nyear!) and ongoing reinvigoration with the continual a
ddition of new\ntalent\, most notably the phenomenal young lead vocalist\,
Marcus Scott\,\namong many others. Marcus replaced TOP’s longtime lead
singer\, Ray\nGreene\, who makes his final appearance with the band on Ste
p Up. Also\ntaking his bows on the new album is 30-year TOP veteran bassis
t\nFrancis ‘Rocco’ Prestia\, who is stepping back from life on the\nro
