SUMMARY:The Presidential Election of 1912: Theodore Roosevelt and the Rise
 of the Bull Moose Party
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The Milford Museum American History Series continues with a pro
gram\ntitled The Presidential Election of 1912: Theodore Roosevelt and the
\nRise of the Bull Moose Party\, to be presented by Lew Miller on\nSaturda
 y\, September 13\, 1:00 p.m. at the Milford Public Library in\nMilford\, D
elaware. The Election of 1912 was a contest between four\nnominees\, but t
he program’s focus will be on two of them: Theodore\nRoosevelt (a former
president and the nominee of the Progressive\nParty\, also called the Bul
l Moose Party)\; and Woodrow Wilson\, a\nDemocrat who was then serving as
the governor of New Jersey. It has\nbeen called the first ‘modern’ pre
sidential election since several\nstates held primary elections to choose
their candidates. Some of the\nissues in the campaign may sound familiar:
tariffs\, immigration\,\ninflation\, and inequality. The election outcome
determined the\ndirection of the two main parties over the 20th Century: T
he\nRepublican Party became more conservative\, and the Democratic Party\n
 became more liberal.\n
