SUMMARY:The Last Vampire and The Vampyre | A Celebration of Halloween
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The Lewes Public Library Shakespeare Festival brings New York C
ity's\nown David Logan Rankin to perform staged readings of two\nvampire-t
hemed pieces for Halloween. The first\, John William\nPolidoris’ 1819 pi
ece\, The Vampyre\, was written as a short work of\nprose fiction as part
of a contest that produced Mary Shelley’s\nFrankenstein. It is perhaps t
he first written work to combine the\nvarious elements of the vampire tale
into a coherent literary work.\nJoining Rankin in this reading is Lewes
’ own Sadie Andros. The\nsecond piece The Last Vampire\, is a solo piece
written and read by\nDavid Logan Rankin. It is a chilling experience as t
he audience\ninteracts directly with the vampire as he tells us of his exp
eriences\nin the hundreds of years of his existence among us. The piece is
\ncompelling with just the right amount of suspense to generate an\nenthra
lling Halloween experience. These stories are intended for\nadults due to
thematic material and language\, and may not be\nappropriate for families
with young children. Singled out for\nexcellence time and again by the New
York theatre community\, David\nLogan Rankin brings a strong artistic sen
sibility shaped with a craft\nhoned by decades of experience on New York a
nd regional stages\, in\ntelevision\, film\, video\, and the recording stu
dio. Sadie is well known\nto local audiences through her performances at C
lear Space\, her\nregular appearances with the Shakespeare Festival offeri
ngs\, and in\nher work as the drama teacher at Cape Henlopen High School.
This\nperformance is on the lawn behind the library. For your comfort\, br
ing\na lawn chair or blanket to sit on\, and dress for the weather. Social
\ndistancing areas will be marked out for attendees and masks that cover\n
the mouth and nose are required by all. In case of inclement weather\,\nyo
u will be contacted regarding whether the event is moved indoors.\nRegistr
ation is required and attendance may be limited if the weather\nis incleme
nt. The Shakespeare Festival\, a program of the Lewes Public\nLibrary sinc
e 2015\, seeks to provide the community with experiences\nthat foster the
understanding of Shakespeare and the world in which he\nlived and wrote. I
n addition the Festival fosters the development of\nnew works celebrating
the spoken word and hosting performances of\nclassical texts. This program
is supported\, in part\, by a grant from\nthe Delaware Division of the Ar
ts\, a state agency\, in partnership with\nthe National Endowment for the
Arts. The Division promotes Delaware\narts events on DelawareScene.com.
