SUMMARY:\"Side by Side\" Exhibition: Soulmates in Life and Art
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Three couples share their artworks “Side by Side” in Peni
nsula\nGallery’s August exhibition. This show\, which is on display from
\nAugust 5th to 27th\, allows viewers to compare the artistic styles of\nc
oupled artists\, seeing how a personal connection between two\nprofessiona
ls influences their creative output. “Side by Side”\nincludes original
paintings from Kristin Blanck and Dan Graziano\, Jean\nBrinton-Jaecks and
Harry Jaecks\, Emily Thompson\, and George\nThompson.   “Side by Side
” is an exhibition with no specific\ntheme\, allowing the partners to de
cide how they represent their shared\nvision. Known for her highly detaile
d still life paintings\, Kristin\nBlanck’s images feature various alcoho
 l bottles that correlate with\nDan Graziano’s motion-filled bar scenes.
The Brinton-Jaecks both\nfocus on waterways and landscapes\, with Jean opt
ing to depict places\nacross the European countryside and Harry finding in
spiration in\nworking docks and boats. While the Thompson’s subjects dif
fer\, with\nEmily being inspired by vintage signs and homes and George pai
nting\nmainly landscapes\, they both share a similar painterly style that\
nallows their works to feel complimentary.   Kristin Blanck is a\nreali
st painter working with traditional techniques to capture the\nbeauty of t
he ordinary and elevate it to the inspired. Before becoming\na full-time a
rtist\, Kristin worked as an award-winning fashion\ndesigner for 25 years.
Largely self-taught\, she paints in a highly\ndetailed style that is infl
uenced by historic and contemporary Dutch\nartists. Working primarily in o
il\, Kristin finds voice in minimal\ncompositions and familiar subjects co
upled with a strong sense of\nlight and shadow to establish a counterpoint
between the classical and\ncontemporary. Dan Graziano is an award-winnin
g\, nationally exhibited\nartist\, whose paintings capture the hidden beau
ty found in the\nunexpected places and fleeting moments of everyday life.
 Incorporating\ndramatic light\, shadow\, color\, and perspective\, his com
positions\nfeature a diversity of subjects — from a simple still life to
rugged\ncoastlines\, active urban life\, lively cafes and bars\, small ru
ral\ntowns\, and forgotten roadside relics. His work has been featured in\
nnumerous publications and is in the collections of private and\ncorporate
collectors throughout the world. For “Side by Side\,”\nDan’s exquis
ite bar scenes perfectly accompany Kristin’s bottles\,\nwith her pieces
providing the liquids used by Dan’s bartenders.  \nJean Brinton-Jaecks
is a plein air landscape painter\, who received an\nMFA from George Wash
ington University. In 2016 Jean received the Annie\nAward for Fine Arts fr
om the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County. She\nwas a recipient of the Al
fred and Traord Klots International Program\nfor Artists Residency in Brit
tany\, France. Jean has taught plein air\npainting on the Amalfi Coast\, S
onoma\, San Diego\, New England\, and the\nBrandywine River Valley. She is
a painting instructor for St. John’s\nCollege Annapolis\, the Smithsoni
an American Art Museum\, the US Botanic\nGarden and Corcoran\, and the Nat
ional Arboretum.  Harry Lloyd\nJaecks produces figure studies\, landscap
es\, and portraits in oil\, egg\ntempera\, watercolor\, and graphite. His
work is focused on the people\nand landscapes of California\, coastal New
England\, his native\nChesapeake\, and rural Piedmont. He has exhibited at
various locations\naround the U.S. including the Baltimore Museum of Art\
, the Easton\nMaryland Academy Art Museum\, the Washington Society of Land
scape\nPainters Plein Air Exhibitions\, and the Baltimore Watercolor Socie
ty\nMid Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibitions. Original works by H.L.\n
Jaecks are represented in corporate and private collections throughout\nth
e United States. Although they both use watercolor as their primary\nmediu
m\, Harry and Jean’s “Side by Side” works showcase their\ncontrastin
g vision\, with Jean’s landscapes capturing the opulent\ncolors and lush
scenery of Europe and Harry’s embracing the brutish\nenvironment of wor
king fishermen. Emily Thompson attended the\nprestigious High School of A
rt & Design and earned her Bachelor of\nFine Arts Degree from the School o
f Visual Arts in New York. She is a\nnationally recognized\, award-winning
artist. Through her painting\, she\ndocuments the iconic\, the disappeari
ng\, and the abandoned elements of\nthe American identity. Emily’s piece
s are filled with nostalgic\nbuildings and signs\, taking the viewer back
in time with classic\nmotels and beach cottages.  George Thompson earned
his Bachelor of\nFine Arts Degree from Pratt Institute in New York and al
so studied\npainting and drawing at The Art Students League. He specialize
 s in\nlandscape\, portrait\, and figure painting in a contemporary\,\ntrad
itional style. His nationally recognized\, award-winning work has\nbeen ex
hibited at the Woodmere Museum in Philadelphia\, The\nPhiladelphia Sketch
Club\, and The Trenton City Museum in New Jersey.\nHis paintings are part
of the permanent collection at The Art Students\nLeague and Doylestown Hos
pital\, as well as collections throughout the\nUnited States. While the su
bjects of Emily and George’s “Side by\nSide” paintings vary\, their
painterly technique and style create a\ntype of surreal appearance to thei
r realistic scenes. “Side by\nSide” is on display from August 5th to 2
7th. Works from the show can\nbe previewed at www.peninsula-gallery.com
