SUMMARY:\"Seasons of...\": Pastel Paintings from Nick Serratore
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The vivid colors and dynamic landscapes of all four seasons are
  the\ncenterpiece of Nick Serratore’s brand-new solo exhibition\,\n“Se
asons of…”. The bold shades radiating from the paintings —\nchartreu
 se\, crimson\, plum\, cobalt\, iron — transform our region's\nscenery in
to technicolor\, lulling viewers into serene\, almost\notherworldly places
. From November 1st to the 23rd\, the Peninsula\nGallery’s walls will be
graced with 25 pastel paintings in a variety\nof shapes and sizes from th
is beloved local artist. An opening\nreception will be held on Saturday\,
November 1\, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm\,\nwhich is free and open to everyone. E
njoy a night out on the town with\ncomplimentary food and drink\, while ch
atting with Nick about his work.\nNick Serratore graduated from the Hussi
an School of Art in\nPhiladelphia and Wilmington University. He works prim
arily in pastels\n— a medium he feels can capture the tactile experience
and majesty\nof the grand landscapes he depicts. He takes inspiration fro
m the\nplaces and environments here in our beautiful region of the world\,
\nsaying\, “It is difficult to describe in words the colors of the\nseas
onal skies of Sussex County. The hues of greens\, browns\, and golds\nfoun
d in a planted field are equally indescribable. When these scenes\nare pun
ctuated by a weathered old barn or silo\, the overall impression\nis mysti
cal. The textures of a plowed field\, an isolated woodland\, or\na crashin
g ocean wave are again so varied that even photographs are\nunable to do t
hem justice. The flat plane of the earth here gives\nlight and shadow a mu
ltitude of opportunities to do their play.”\nOver the years\, Nick has f
eatured in multiple solo exhibitions\,\nparticipated in various charitable
events\, and won numerous awards.\nThis is Nick's 4th solo exhibition at
Peninsula Gallery\, with his work\nbeing shown year-round as a resident ar
tist. He was the recipient of\nthe 2012 Individual Artist Fellowship from
the Delaware Division of\nthe Arts. He is a member of the Pastel Society o
f America in New\nYork.  Nick says of this showcase: “With each change
of season\ncomes a change in weather: the bare cold earth of winter defros
ts to\nwelcome in the rebirth of spring\, while the heat of summer is cool
ed\nby the crispness of autumn. But a change of season also represents the
\nchange of our lives\, a time of reflection. I have been painting the\nla
 ndscape for over thirty-five years\, and as I grow older\, I think of\nall
the paintings that I have created that were inspired by the\nseasons and
my surroundings. I also think about how I\, as an artist\,\nhave changed.
Each season continually gives me unlimited inspiration\nand ideas. Rainy d
ays are my favorite because they put me in a\ncontemplative state\, perfec
t for creating art in the solitude of my\nstudio. ‘Seasons of…’ repr
esents my experience with nature. It\nis with hope that the viewer will be
come immersed in their own\nexperience.” “Seasons of…” is on displ
ay from November 1st to\nthe 23rd at the Peninsula Gallery in Lewes\, DE.
Works from the show\ncan be previewed at www.peninsula-gallery.com and are
available for\npre-sale.  The gallery is located in the Shops at the Bea
 con\, 520\nEast Savannah Rd. Lewes\, DE\, and is open Tue-Sat 10-5\, and S
 un 11-3.\nVenue: Peninsula Gallery.
