SUMMARY:\"No Boundaries: The Art of Printmaking Today.\" American Watercolo
 r Print Society National Exhibition
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:In the year 1939\, the founding members of the American Color P
rint\nSociety decided to create an organization for the exhibition of colo
r\nprints. This was at a time when only black and white prints were\nconsi
dered worthy of display in museums and galleries. The three\nfounding memb
ers were Florence V. Cannon\, Mary Mullineux and Waunita\nSmith. The Ameri
can Color Print Exhibition of 1940\, which included the\nwork of the 85 or
iginal members\, heralded the arrival of the color\nprint as an American p
rint medium. The use of color in printmaking\nencouraged artists to experi
ment with the traditional methods of\nprintmaking such as lithography\, bl
ock printing\, etching\, intaglio\,\nsilkscreen and monotype. This led to
other printmaking techniques\,\nincluding the use of collage\, found mater
ials\, letterpress and digital\nprintmaking. There have been many distingu
ished members during the 80\nplus-year history of the organization. Among
them have been Benton\nSpruance\, Jerome Kaplan\, Rockwell Kent\, Will Bar
 net\, Stella Drabkin\,\nJacob Landau\, Dorothy Hutton\, June Wayne\, Eugen
 e Feldman\, Ethel\nAshton\, Bernard Kohn\, Jeanette Kohn\, Mildred Dillon\
 , Abraham Hankins\,\nJohn Taylor Arms\, Richard Hood\, Francoise Gilot\, V
ictor and Michael\nLasuchin\, Edna Andrade\, Tony Lazorko\, Leonard Leibow
 itz\, Idaherma\nWilliams\, Merle Spandorfer\, and Samuel Maitin.\n \n
