SUMMARY:Into the Night: Art Exhibition at Peninsula Gallery
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:From October 5th to the 27th\, get prepared for the haunting se
ason\nwith our new exhibition\, “Into the Night.” The crisp air and\nc
hilling darkness of autumn serve as the backdrop for these new\npaintings
from Howard J. Eberle\, Bradley Hendershot\, Katharine Krieg\,\nand Joe Mi
lligan. From remote buildings and forgotten objects to rich\noranges and m
idnight blues\, the pieces of “Into the Night” embody\nthe essence of
October.      An artist reception will be held on\nSaturday\, October 5
\, from 5 to 6:30 pm and is free and open to the\npublic. Attendees will h
ave the opportunity to mingle with some of the\nartists during the evening
 . Call (302) 645-0551 or email\npeninsulagallery1@gmail.com for further de
tails.       One of\nthree watercolorists featured in this exhibition\
, Howard J. Eberle is\na self-taught artist\, who has been painting in tra
nsparent watercolor\nsince 1973. He started painting professionally in 199
0 after a career\nin retail display. He describes his style as “abstract
realism”\nand considers himself a portrait painter of objects\, being d
rawn to\nsimple\, weathered subjects ravaged by time. Oval gourds and roun
d\nmoons dominate Eberle’s paintings. As per his forte\, Howard uses his
\ndry brush to effortlessly capture the texture of rusting steel on\nweath
er-worn lighthouses\, decaying wood on old barn doors\, and the\nporous sk
in of voluptuous pumpkins.       Bradley Hendershot grew\nup painting
alongside his father — artist Ray Hendershot —who was\nhis earliest te
acher and guide. Taking inspiration from the Brandywine\nSchool\, his styl
e puts an emphasis on realism\, crafting scenes that\nare inspired by his
daily life. Hendershot has earned a signature\nmembership status in variou
s national and international artist\nsocieties\, and his work appears in p
ublic and private collections\nnationwide and around the world\, including
numerous museum and\ncorporate collections. For “Into the Night\,” Br
adley has painted\nscenes of the rolling hills of rural Pennsylvania surro
unded by\novercast skies\, early dusk\, and full moon nights. His muses fo
r these\npieces are secluded farmhouses that exist in a place where time\n
appears to have stood still.         Katharine Krieg is a\nprofession
al artist creating works of marine and rural landscape and\nnarrative stil
l life for over 30 years. Her works are done primarily\nin oil paint\, but
she is also accomplished in the mediums of\nwatercolor and charcoal and h
as been recognized in all three mediums.\nHer list of publications include
s books and national magazines\, and\nher work can be found in collections
throughout the United States and\nbeyond. A quiet sense of introspection
and the passing of time are\nthemes that recur in the oil paintings Krieg
has chosen to feature in\nthis exhibit. From still landscapes at twilight
and cliff-top houses\nemitting a single warm light\, to wise birds beckoni
ng you with their\nmysterious aura\, Katharine is diverse in her imagery a
nd stories.   \n   Joe Milligan’s watercolors evoke a sensitive and
emotional\nfeeling of time and place\, which can be attributed to his keen
\nobservations of the subjects and their surroundings. He is featured in\n
galleries in PA\, DE\, and NJ\, has received awards at regional art\nshows
\, and has appeared in books and magazines about the New Jersey\ncoast. Un
 like Hendershot’s stoney country homes\, Milligan’s\narchitectural sub
jects include isolated houses on the beach\, docked\nboats\, glowing light
houses\, and abandoned buoys. His nautical scenes\nare intensely atmospher
ic\, using the ocean\, sand\, and skies to give\nyou a sense of the many p
ersonalities of Mother Nature. Venue:\nPeninsula Gallery.
