SUMMARY:Eastern Shore Plein Air: Works by Jim Rehak
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:“Eastern Shore Plein Air\" is an exhibit of oils that offer
s Jim\nRehak’s individual interpretation of the Delmarva landscape.\nFol
lowing in the tradition of the Impressionists\, the paintings are\n“alla
prima\" (wet on wet) directly painted from life. An\nartist’s respons
e to nature\, light and everything around us can be\nexpressed in paint\"
¦and each artist’s response is unique. Plein air\npainting in particula
r allows for an intuitive and personal\ninterpretation as demonstrated in
 Jim’s show. Jim Rehak\, a resident\nof Seaford\, DE\, captures the seaso
nal changes of the Delmarva\nPeninsula in his landscape paintings. His ent
husiasm for plein air\nlandscape takes him outside to paint fields\, marsh
es\, farms\, rivers\nand bays throughout the area. Since Rehak is inspired
by the\nImpressionists and Post-Impressionists of the 19th century light
is a\nkey element in his work. Rehak’s interest in art started with comi
c\nbook illustration at an early age. It was while studying for his BFA\na
t the Maryland Institute of Art that his interest in oil painting\nemerged
. Art has always been a vocation for Rehak \"“ as a portrait\nand carica
ture artist in Ocean City during college\, at the Marson\nGallery after co
llege\, art director at a sign company\, teacher and\nfreelance court illu
strator. Jim is member in many art organizations\nincluding the Mid-Atlant
ic Plein Air Painters Association. In recent\nyears his work has been show
n and won awards in group and solo shows\nin Maryland and Delaware. Venue:
  Rehoboth Art League.
