ABOUT THE ARTISTS ​Erinys\nQuartet Named for the Erinye s (a.k.a. the Furies) from the Greek\ntragedy Oresteia by Aeschylus\, and with roots in Estonia\, Lithuania\,\nGreece\, the United States\, and Finl and\, the Erinys Quartet was founded\nin 2018 at the Sibelius Academy in H elsinki\, where they worked closely\nwith cellist Marko Ylönen. Since the autumn of 2023\, the Erinys\nQuartet has been the Nina von Maltzahn Strin g Quartet-in-Residence at\nthe Curtis Institute of Music. ​The Erinys Qu artet has performed\nthroughout Finland\, Europe\, and the United States. They have been\nfeatured at festivals and concert series\, including the I ndiana\nUniversity Summer Music Series\, the Mimir Chamber Music Festival in\nFort Worth\, Texas\, and Festival Groba in Ponteareas\, Spain. They ha ve\nalso taken part in the inaugural Dover Quartet Workshop at Curtis as\n well as the Professional String Quartet Seminar with the Pacifica\nQuartet and Atar Arad (Cleveland Quartet) at Indiana University. ​At\nthe Bad T ölz International String Quartet Competition in 2023\, they\nwere awarded the Audience Prize Award of the City of Bad Tölz\, as\nwell as the Ester házy Foundation Special Prize for best\ninterpretation of a Haydn string quartet. ​Since 2021\, Erinys\nQuartet has been supported by Le Dimore d el Quartetto\, where they are\nalso a part of the European Union-sponsored MERITA platform. Roberto Díaz\, Viola A vi olist\nof international reputation\, Roberto Díaz is president and CEO of the\nCurtis Institute of Music\, following in the footsteps of renowned\n soloist/directors such as Josef Hofmann\, Efrem Zimbalist\, and Rudolf\nSe rkin. ​As a soloist\, Mr. Díaz collaborates with leading\nconductors of our time on stages throughout the world. He has also\nworked directly wit h important 20th- and 21st-century composers\,\nincluding Krzysztof Pender ecki—whose viola concerto he has performed\nnumerous times with the comp oser on the podium and whose double\nconcerto he premiered in the United S tates—as well as Edison\nDenisov\, Jennifer Higdon\, Ricardo Lorenz\, an d Roberto Sierra. ​A\nfrequent recitalist\, Mr. Díaz enjoys collaborati ng with young\nmusicians\, bringing a fresh approach to the repertoire and providing\ninvaluable opportunities to artists at the beginning of their careers.\nIn addition to performing with major string quartets and pianist s in\nchamber music series and festivals worldwide\, he is a member of the \nDíaz Trio. His recordings include a Grammy-winning performance of the\n Jennifer Higdon Viola Concerto\, a Grammy-nominated disc of viola\ntranscr iptions by William Primrose for Naxos\, and releases on the\nArtek\, Bridg e Records\, Dorian\, Nimbus\, and New World labels. Peter\nWiley\, Cello Peter Wiley\, a 1974 graduate of the Curtis Inst itute of\nMusic\, has played at leading festivals including the Marlboro M usic\nFestival\, for which he also tours and records. As a recitalist he h as\nappeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Lincoln Center’s\nAli ce Tully Hall. A member of the Beaux Arts Trio from 1987 to 1998\,\nMr. Wi ley also succeeded his teacher\, David Soyer\, as cellist of the\nGuarneri String Quartet from 2001 to 2009. He is a member of the piano\nquartet Op us One\, with Curtis faculty members Ida Kavafian and Steven\nTenenbom and pianist Anne-Marie McDermott. ​Mr. Wiley entered Curtis\nat age thirtee n. At twenty he was named principal cello of the\nCincinnati Symphony\, af ter one year with the Pittsburgh Symphony.
