Situated on the border of Delaware and Maryland, Delmar's very beginning in 1859 was fostered by the business community of the area as a rail head for the Baltimore, Chesapeake & Atlantic Railway Company.

Delmar Heritage Day and Annual Tug-of-War with MD:

 Delmar straddles the Delaware and Maryland borders in southwest Delaware, making it a key point of the Mason-Dixon Line. Delmar is in both Sussex County Delaware and Wicomico County Maryland. Founded in 1859 as a Railroad town, they are proud of their roots and proudly display their 1929 Penna Railroad caboose and our 19th century highball, the last remaining in this country. During their annual Delmar Heritage Day, a Tug-of-War across the state line takes place between Delaware and Maryland.
